I began growing gourds after a career in auto sales. I now grow 20,000 gourds per year and ship to 25 states. I started growing gourds for my own use but as the number of friends and relatives wanting gourds grew, I got the idea of selling them.
The vast majority of my gourds are used for arts and crafts. Gourds have been used for bowls, vessels, and decorative containers forthousands of years. Archaeologists have found evidence of Gourd Mania from as early as 2600 B.C.
Gourds come in variety of shapes and sizes but my favorites include the Bushel, Chinese Bottle, Indonesian Bottle, and Maranka gourd, as well as the Martin, Canteen, and Kettle gourds.
